Signs your gutters need attention

Rain is the best time to check. Stand back from the house during a downpour and watch where the water actually goes.

• Water spilling over the front edge or pouring from a joint
• Staining or green growth running down the wall below a gutter
• Damp patches on internal walls, especially in corners
• Plants or grass growing out of the gutter run
• Gutters sagging between brackets or pulling away from the fascia
• Downpipes that gurgle, overflow at the top or discharge onto the wall

What we do

Sometimes the fix is straightforward: clear the run, reset the falls, renew a few brackets and replace failed joints. Where the gutter is brittle, distorted or the wrong profile for the roof, replacement is the better value job.

We fit new gutters, downpipes, hoppers and outlets, set correct falls to the outlets and secure everything to sound fixings. If the fascia behind the gutter has rotted, that gets sorted at the same time — there is no point hanging new gutter off soft timber.

Cast iron and older properties

Older houses often still have cast iron gutter. Where it is sound, it can be repaired, rehung and repainted. Where sections have cracked beyond saving we will discuss matching replacements that keep the look of the house rather than defaulting to plastic.
