Roof Maintenance & Inspections for Homes Across 7 Counties

Maintenance is the cheapest roofing work you will ever pay for. Clearing a valley, re-bedding a ridge tile or renewing a length of flashing costs a fraction of what the same neglect costs once water has been running into the ceiling for a winter.

What we check

A maintenance visit is a proper look at the whole roof, not a glance from the driveway.

  • Slates and tiles — slipped, cracked, delaminating or missing
  • Ridge and hip bedding, and the condition of the mortar
  • Flashings and leadwork around chimneys, valleys and abutments
  • Valleys and gutters for moss, debris and standing water
  • Fascia, soffits and the condition of the roofline
  • Visible signs of damp, rot or daylight inside the attic where accessible

Preventative work worth doing

Most of what goes wrong on an Irish roof comes down to water not getting away fast enough. Moss holding damp against slates, gutters overflowing behind fascia boards and blocked valleys all cause damage quietly over years. Sorting them early keeps the covering doing its job.

Older and rural properties

Older houses, farm buildings and exposed rural properties take more weather than a sheltered estate house and need looking at more often. If the property is on high ground or faces prevailing south-westerlies, an occasional check after a bad winter is sensible.

Questions

Roof Maintenance — Common Questions

How often should a roof be checked?

For most houses, a look over every couple of years is plenty, plus a check after any serious storm. Older or exposed properties benefit from more frequent attention.

Do you clear moss from roofs?

Yes, where it is appropriate. Heavy moss traps moisture and blocks gutters and valleys. It has to be removed carefully so the slates or tiles are not damaged in the process.

Can you inspect a roof before I buy a house?

We can look at a roof and tell you plainly what condition it is in and what work it is likely to need. That is practical advice from a roofer, not a formal structural survey.
